WELCOME TO THE GENDER DIVISION WEBSITE 

The Gender Division (formerly known as Ministry of Gender) is a Division under the Office of the President. We are responsible for coordinating and monitoring the effective implementation of Gender policies with other government Line Ministries and cooperating partners. The Division is committed to protecting and promoting women’s rights, curbing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and reducing gender inequalities by making progressive changes to legislation to strengthen the protective environment. It aims to prioritize the advancement of women and strengthen their capacity to influence decision-making at the highest level on matters pertaining to gender equity and equality.

Our Mandate

The mandate of the Division is to promote gender equality as outlined in the Government Gazette Notice  No. 7039 of 2021 (Vol. LVII, No. 90).

 

Vision

“A Smart and Value-Centered Gender Division.”

To realise its Vision, the Division identified three (3) areas of focus and their related strategic results as follows:

  1. Gender Responsive Development resulting in Equitable Development;
  2. Gender Rights protection resulting in Fulfilled Gender Rights; and
  3. Operational Excellence resulting in High Quality Services.

 

Mission Statement

“To promote gender responsive sustainable development.”

To this end, the mission of the Division is to promote gender rights and development of opportunities to empower men, women, boys and girls in order to eliminate gender inequalities.

 Value Statement

The operations of the Division and more specifically, the conduct and behaviour of staff will be anchored on national values and principles, Code of Ethics and core values namely: Integrity, Transparency, Accountability, Confidentiality, Teamwork, Courtesy and Impartiality.

 Goal Statement

“To mainstream gender at all levels in order to reduce gender disparities”

 

The specific functions of the Division are outlined in the Government Gazette Notice No. 7039 of 2021(Vol.LVII,NO 90) as follows:

  1. Gender;
  2. Gender Based Violence;
  3. Gender Equity and Equality;
  4. National Gender Policy; and 
  5. Women Empowerment.
