SMART ZAMBIA UNVEILS ASSET MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM TO ENHANCE PUBLIC ASSET ACCOUNTABILITY

‎LUSAKA, June 2nd 2026 – The e-Govenment Division (SMART Zambia Institute) has developed and rolled out the Asset Management Information System (AMIS) at the Zambia Air Services Training Institute (ZASTI) in Lusaka, located near Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

‎The system is aimed at strengthening the management, tracking, and accountability of public assets across all Government institution.
‎
Speaking in Lusaka today during the official opening of a training session following the development of the system, Smart Zambia Institute Government Chief Technical Officer (GCTO), Ms. Kasali Musenge, disclosed that manual tracking of assets in the past has proven inefficient and costly.

‎“Tracking assets manually has not been an efficient process and has consistently led to audit queries at the end of financial years,” Ms. Musenge said.
‎
‎She noted that technology is advancing at a rapid pace, and Government must move with the times.
‎
‎“We can find solutions that will stand the test of time. From the comfort of your office, you can tell when a table has been moved to the next office because of the capabilities of technology,” Ms. Musenge told the participants.
‎
‎Thea GCTO acknowledged that the private sector has been far ahead of Government in asset tracking, and urged developers of the new system to align it with the necessary regulatory framework.
‎
‎Ms. Musenge expressed confidence that the system will benefit the entire Government machinery, adding that there has long been a need for a uniform Government approach to ensuring accountability for the wide range of assets sitting in various institutions.

‎“It is this team that is here together that will ensure that we have a system in place that will not only be functional for today but for a long time. As you know, Government is vast. We have different ranges of assets that are sitting in various institutions. It is important that we have a one‑government approach on how we ensure that we account for these assets,” she said.

‎The training drew participation from the Smart Zambia Institute as well as other Government institutions.
